Long Sutton Ladies travelled to Ipswich on Saturday glad to be playing again after a two week break but not relishing a game against the high flying Ipswich team.

However the game started with a fair bit of possession for Sutton but Ipswich were soon in the ascendency. However good defending by Sutton led by Gemma Parr and a number of well defended short corners with Sarah Walker leading the line kept them at bay. However the sustained pressure soon told with a run down the Sutton left, the ball was fed back for an Ipswich forward to finish in the right hand corner.

However this spurred Sutton on and after good work from Charlie Leuty on the right, the ball was fed to Walker who intelligently passed to Leanne Woodhead who coolly rounded the keeper to level the scores. Ipswich scored again from a huge strike from the top of the D which Wallis in the Sutton goal could do little about. Sutton were then dealt a blow on the stoke of half time, when Vicky Sandall executed a reverse stick strike that chipped the keeper but she admitted afterwards that it had been a complete fluke.

Sutton started the second half determined to keep going and soon found themselves only one goal adrift when an excellent ball was played by Tania White out of defence and met brilliantly by Woodhead who never stopped making excellent runs all afternoon. She fed the ball to Walker who calmly slotted the ball to Jeorgia Carr to beat the keeper with aplomb!

Sutton continued to battle with good work all over the pitch, however the skill of the Ipswich team saw them score again. With the game closing out Sutton would have been quite happy with the score at 4-2 but Ipswich managed to find the net twice more to put a gloss on the game which although well deserved doesn't show the spirit and hard work put in by the whole of the Sutton team.

Sutton must take the positives into next week's game against fellow strugglers Ipswich thirds to try to ensure survival in this league which they deserve to be in.
