The Long Sutton Ladies first team began the season with a home game against Shefford and Sandy a game everyone involved knew was going to be physical and a tough start to the season.

Preparation had been good with great results in the friendlies and excellent coaching that had been received by Nick Bailey and his assistants.

The team started the game very much on the back foot with Shefford and Sandy looking the more dominant but after a shaky first 10 minutes Long Sutton started stringing some good passing moves together and managed to penetrate the Shefford defence! After a number of half chances Hannah Greenacre managed to convert a Woodhead pass with some superb stick skills slotting the ball past the keeper! Battling hard but creating little else Sutton went in to the break 1-0 up!

The second half started with a player down to an injury to one of Sutton's most consistent and solid players Tania White. This meant that a slight change was forced which saw Sarah Walker slot in at the back and Charlie Leuty and Fiona Gray were partnered in the centre mid!

Not long into the half Shefford managed to find a way through the defence and equalise through their grit and determination which left Sutton hunting for another! Great work through the centre of the pitch through Walker did see another opportunity arise but Sutton was unable to capitalise!

Although Sutton were a long way of the quality we have produced in pre season we held on to a hard earned point and go into next weeks game against St Neots more determined for 3 points than ever!
