Long Sutton took the trip along the A1101 to face local rivals Wisbech in a competitive match for the first time in a long time. Not knowing what to expect Sutton prepared as well as they could in the short warm up time made shorter by the Captains absent mindedness. Wisbech have a seasoned squad with experience mixed with youth and were testing Sutton in the early exchanges but the reliable defence of Baker,Parr,White and Hales, ensured they were unable to convert. Sutton began to grow into the game and their own youthful midfield of Norey, Perowne, Hastings (M) Jones and Frost were driving at Wisbech to set up chances for Baker (H) who went agonisingly close on more than one occasion. The game was end to end and Sutton used their squad well with Hastings (P) slotting in to allow the midfield to keep up the pressure. The deadlock was finally broken when a ball into the D by captain Baker was left by the Wisbech Keeper who thought the ball would go harmlessly over the baseline, only for it to rebound off the post and Hastings (M) was on hand to pop the ball in to give Sutton a deserved lead. Wisbech still presented a threat and Parr was being worked particularly hard by the Wisbech forward Emma Baker and was equal to it.

Half time and Sutton knew that they would have to score again and this they did in super quick time with slick passing in the midfield finished off with aplomb by Perowne. Unfortunately Wisbech found a way back into the game from a well struck shot from a short corner although Wallis was disappointed not to have done better. She was even more disappointed with the equaliser again from a short corner, a complete miss hit eluding her this time. The game could have gone either way at that stage but, the final whistle sounded and a draw was probably a fair reflection. Sutton can take many positives from the game and the POTM could have gone to numerous players, especially the midfield and forwards who worked tirelessly all game. A tight vote confirmed this but was won by Perowne. Wally of the week was however unanimous with captain Baker picking up the unwanted accolade!
