Long sutton ladies 2nd XI welcomed a Spalding team in today's local derby. Any game against Spalding is a tough one and this game was set out to be no different!

Sutton started the game straight away on the back foot giving Spalding far too much space to play and pass the ball around resulting in Spalding taking an early lead.

Great battling in the midfield by Leah Goodley, Amber Jones and Georgina Maplethorpe relieved some of the pressure from the defence and allow Sutton to respond with a goal from Leanne Woodhead following a Lisa Baker pass.

This left Sutton very much on the front foot and Sutton went in to the half time break 3-1 up thanks to a well worked short corner by Lisa Baker and Millie Lamming capitalising on a defensive misjudgement of a great cross.

Sutton went in to the second half knowing what they had to do to see the game out. Some confident and outstanding defending by Helen Worth, Jayme Hunt, Mair Goodge, Sophie Gray and Hannah Maris

Spalding continued to press and put the pressure on but the defence stood firm. Some great saves by CJ in goal ensured that Spalding were not going to get anything else out of this game!

Following some more great work in the middle of the park Leanne Woodhead sealed the win with a fourth and final goal. With the goals scored Jill Warwick came on to offer more stability at the back and ensure the game was seen out.

A fantastic performance by all players and a great win against a good spalding team!

POTM was Jayme Hunt. Her confident and strong defending was pivotal to the game and ensuring the result went Sutton's way.
