Sutton Pump Peterborough!

Long Sutton men's 1st's once again showed why they are Lincolnshire's finest team. This week it was Peterborough who received the hiding as Sutton continued their impressive form in East Prem B.

Sutton started brightly moving the ball quickly and putting Peterborough under pressure. It was no surprise when Danny Sisson notched his 33rd league goal of the campaign and possibly one of his finest. Slotting the ball inch perfect into the corner on his reverse. Peterborough tried to respond with some possession of their own but Taylor, Baguley and Belding thwarted any threats. The ever running Hardy was causing Peterborough all sorts of problems with a complete display of sublime hockey and then Sutton's second soon followed. Some lovely flowing hockey allowed the hit man Sisson to notch his second as the ball looped in the air and he poked home in front of the defender. Sutton continued to cause Peterborough problems and soon they were treated to a lovely solo effort. Fyson picked the ball up and drove into the D avoiding all tackles before firing in an unstoppable reverse stick shot . Sutton were rampant and then another milestone was achieved.  Nick Ellis scored his first of the season, finishing beautifully but more importantly giving him a goal in the last 22 seasons in Long Sutton Mens 1st team. Then another flowing team move allowed Whatling to fire in a cross which was turned in by a Peterborough defender. 5-0 HT. Peterborough came at Sutton in the second half which they expected but they held firm and kept their calm. Soon a rare treat was seen as Whatling reacted superbly and one handedly swept the ball into the goal on his reverse. The celebration was even more spectacular. Peterborough tried to rally but rarely threatened the Sutton goal. Sutton created again and again and were unlucky not to add to their rout. Peterborough managed a consolation goal  from a short corner but that's all it was.

Sutton are heading into the final game of the season in a strong league position and full of confidence after another excellent team performance.
