MATCH REPORT
LSHC Mens' First v City of Peterborough 1sts - HA Cup
Played Home on 29th September 2013Sutton met Prem A side Peterborough in the first round of the HA cup on Sunday and gave their higher league rivals a stern run for their money. Sutton started brightly again and moved the ball around sharply. Peterborough retained the ball well as they showed their quality but couldn't breach the solid Sutton defence.
The deadlock was broken as Nick Bailey's initial shot was saved, but he pounced on the rebound to put Sutton ahead. Peterborough responded well and soon equalised and were very fortunate to take the lead moments later to take a 2-1 lead into half time.
The second half Sutton had more of the ball and continued to play some lovely hockey and rightly equalised. Some great pressure created an error from Peterborough, and the impressive Sisson pounced to draw the keeper and smash home. Peterborough again took the lead from a well worked short corner, but Sutton's fighting spirit shone through and the scintillating Sisson beautifully slotted home his second to equalise again.
Bailey hit the bar with a stunning deflection, but with 5 minutes from time Peterborough scored their fourth. Sutton came close to equalising again, but couldn't find a way through, leaving the score 4-3 at the end of the game. Sutton will take a lot of positives with an excellent team performance as they matched a strong Peterborough side who are looking for promotion into the National League.
