For the second week running Long Sutton took there foot off the gas and almost threw the game away.

The match was played in a good spirit by two determined teams desperate to gain the bragging rights in the first derby game of the league season.  Sutton started on the front foot with MOTM Jeremy Watt and Andy Shore working well in midfield. But within the first 10 mins of play a penalty stroke was awarded to Spalding. Goalkeeper James Cliff proved his reputation by saving the stroke. As Sutton peppered the Spalding goal it took a sublime deflection by Stefan Fox to beat their keeper who was in fantastic form.  Just before half time Sutton doubled their lead when Nick Bailey found himself one on one with the keeper and was able to lift it over the oncoming goalie.

At half time Sutton rung the changes which seemed to affect the teams momentum and the second half saw Spalding force their way back into the game.  Following some uncharacteristic errors by the Green Army's goal keeper they soon found themselves back on level terms.  This lead to an end to end battle with Sutton finally waking up with Bailey scoring two unstoppable deflections to complete his hat trick.  But this was not the end of things, with Spalding pressing hard to get back into the game they themselves scored an unstoppable deflection.  Sutton held out for the final five minutes to take all 3 points home.

Captain Matt Holmes commented that he was "...happy with the attacking display of the team, but work was needed to stop the leaky defence if we are to have any aspiration of challenging for honours this season."
