Sutton travelled to March for match against another team in the top four.

The game started competitively and both sides battled well, with March probably edging the better chances but not finding a way to beat  James Cliff in the Sutton goal. Matt Holmes and Man of the Match Ross Gavaghan in defence were especially impressive and it was a little against the flow of the game when March worked themselves a goal to take the lead. As usual from this spirited Sutton side, they dug in and after a couple of easy chances went begging it was no surprise when good work from Gavaghan and Jeremy Watt released Ben Shore who rifled in to equalise. Level at half time was no more than each team deserved.

March started the second half at the tempo their Division 1 status last season would suggest they were capable of and Sutton struggled to hold them. Some excellently worked goals gave them the buffer of a 4-1 lead and whilst Shore and Mallet had chances later in the half Sutton never managed to penetrate the well drilled March defence again. The last word on the scoring front falling to March who were awarded a disputed 5th goal as a shot from outside of the 'D' ghosted in off the Sutton keeper.

Whilst the scoreline appeared convincing and March were a very good side, Sutton deserved a little more from this battling performance and the spirit in the squad remains high as the team continues to equip itself well against higher company.
