Long Sutton men's 2nd XI hosted Cambs South 2nds this weekend, South arrived with a significantly stronger squad than Sutton had faced at the start of the season when they were the victors.

Both teams started well and the play was end to end, both sides testing each others goals without result, it was Sutton that opened the scoring through Ben Shore, who proved to be back to scoring ways with his first of 5 goals in the match, after some excellent team work Shore found himself one on one with the keeper and dutifully drilled his second in before halftime. After the break, South came out strong testing Sutton, keeper Cliff proving to be in form making critical saves, it was only a matter of time before they netted a goal of their own, a few unforced errors and a chaotic moment in Suttons D saw a penalty stroke awarded to South which was drilled into the underside of the cross bar and into Suttons goal by Souths striker. This awoke Sutton and they stepped up a gear, pressing hard. An injury to play maker Watt having to have a 5 min break after a heavy 50/50 challenge, was followed by a injury to Cliff stopping a bullet shot with his leg inside of his pad, as things tend to come in threes the proof of this came in a calf injury to Wiles who was instrumental in Sutton s first half success, given all this the team continued to hold shape and continued to work hard resulting in 4 goals within 15 mins, 3 more from Shore and 1 from Donaghy.

An excellent performance from the first game of the second half of the season. Special mentions to Fox, Wiles, MOTM Shore and Keeper Cliff.
