The Green Army men's second XI deployed to Ely City to face their second XI. A pitch booking error on Ely's part meant the push back and location was changed, only by half an hour and a mile from Ely's club house. This gave Sutton extra time before the start of the match, which caused Sutton to lose focus at the start of the game. The play started fast and was end to end with Ely looking the most threatening, but with the Sutton defence and MOTM Cliff playing brilliantly, they kept their current form and the Green Army in the game.  The first goal came for Sutton from Ben Shore, when Canham's shot was stopped only to be kicked into the oncoming Shore who slotted home. It wasn't long before Sutton began to find their feet and, although end to end, still created some good chances. Suttons goal was tested at times, but Ely couldn't find an equaliser. Some good team work from Canham and Gavaghan saw Shore at the top of the D, and Wiles open to the right. Shore unselfishly delivered the ball and Wiles dispatched taking Sutton 2-0 at the break, punishing Ely for their missed chances. Sutton were however making hard work of the game and got a firm half time talk from captain Holmes & Watt.

In the second half, Suttons game did improve, but they were still making silly mistakes and putting themselves under pressure. Sutton managed to convert a short corner through good work from Watt and a cool finish from Shore to make it three to the good. The fourth came from a fizzing ball into the D from Fox, that Shore managed to get the faintest of touches on deflecting into Ely's goal. A good result putting Sutton fourth it the table and within striking distance of third, however when playing against higher table teams, Sutton need to maintain composure to keep progressing.
