Sutton went into their penultimate match of the season missing a couple of key players but still with a side capable of giving high flying Peterborough a game.

Starting well with the ever consistent Holmes and Fox marshalling the defence and the once again excellent Cliff in goal, Sutton repelled everything the opposition threw at them in the first 15 minutes. This gave the rest of the side belief and after great work from Esse, once again always industrious in the Sutton midfield, Canham scored with a deflected finish from a Ben Shore pass.

To their credit Peterborough took this as their cue to raise their game and with a tweak of formation, they began to over run the Sutton midfield thus leaving the defence exposed. 1-0 became 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3 very quickly from a combination of good attacking play and individual errors from Sutton.

Half time gave Sutton the chance to rebuild however with their best Lego Construction Worker Ross Gavaghan promoted to the 1sts they faced a further onslaught in the 2nd half. The score became academic as whilst some fought to the end others heads dropped and Peterborough took advantage.

Whilst there have been a couple of results over the last few weeks of the season that have been disappointing, it is important to remember how well this young team has acquitted itself in this higher division this season. This was always a season to consolidate their promotion and this has been done very well, with one game to go they are guaranteed 5th place so next week is time to celebrate a good season with a match against local rivals Wisbech.
