Sutton went into this National 2nd XI plate quarter final knowing that the Burton team they were up against were most likely going to be the strongest team they had played all season and therefore would need to be at the top of their game.

Sutton started well and within minutes were in the lead from an excellent finish from Man of the Match Adam Wiles; this early boost led to a continued period of pressure from which Josh Fyson added a second. The early 2-0 lead was  no more than deserved and could have been more with chances being made freely by the ever industrious Hardy and the ever willing Fyson. As the half went on Burton came into the game and a couple of defensive lapses allowed them to equalise and go into half time all square.

Sutton started the second half with renewed vigour and it was no surprise when Fyson made it 3-2 and then Wiles restored the two goal margin; this time Sutton did not allow Burton to comeback and when Andy Shore converted a well worked short corner routine the result was in no doubt. Indeed if Canham had not had a goal unfortunately disallowed it would have been more; towards the end of the game Burton did snatch one back before Fyson finished what the entire team had started and scored Suttons sixth and his hat trick with an excellent finish.

The side now go into the hat for the semi-final draw where once again it is likely that they will be matched against a team who on paper should beat them, but as the squad showed today if they turn up and all play to the top of their game they are capable of causing a problem for any side; Once again the Long Sutton 2nd XI and it's fantastic band of merry supporters proved that the whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts.
