That this game was played at all was due to the sportsmanship of Peterborough Vets in deciding to play hockey rather than claim easy points earlier in the season.

In the first half Peterborough Vets produced a simple but effective display of passing hockey, scoring two goals from open play and a third from a short corner. Sutton pressed forward but could not convert their chances with the same efficiency.

Sutton had the better of the second half and excellent movement down the right saw Jack Smiths reverse stick shot saved,  with the rebound smashed home by a leaping James Slator. The stunned silence afterwards emphasised the quality of the goal!

Peterborough defended hard to maintain their lead and used many years of experience to thwart repeated Sutton attacks, with three short corners saved on the line by the goalkeepers stick. Hard as Sutton tried to break the defensive line, ultimately experience triumphed over youth as the clock ran out.
