Sutton's youngsters came out on top in this good-natured derby, bagging an unheard-of six goals in the process. Jason Mallet opened the scoring with a trademark reverse stick rocket, Alex Wilkinson in his first game of the season struck a peach of a shot into the bottom corner which surprised him as much as everyone else and Adam Wiles netted a fine solo effort. The star of the piece was the seasoned campaigner James Baker, constantly making space for himself in the D so he could turn and shoot. His first hat trick of the season was the result. The date of his last hat trick has been lost in the mists of time.

Sutton were solid all over the pitch though, with David Shire immaculate in defence (including a stunning goal line clearance) and Harry Thorpe and Adam Sisson having excellent games in midfield. Stand-in skipper Jeremy Smith tasted victory for the first time this year, and it was sweet indeed as he controlled the game from the back, unleashing a constantly rotating set of wingers (Dan Oldfield, Kieran Forrest, Stephen Milnes and Jack Smith) with which Spalding's tiring defence could not cope.
