Grantham's experienced side outlasted Sutton's development squad in a scrappy div 6NW(N) fixture. In fact scrappy is probably a polite term for a match that saw four yellow cards. Grantham took the lead despite good work from improving ‘keeper Joss Calderbank. Sutton equalised when Ian White found Kane Portass' intelligent run and the youngster finished with aplomb. The visitors again got their noses in front before White buried a short corner to bring the scores level again. Grantham's strength made the difference and despite tireless midfield running from Harry Synnott and Will White and resolute defending from John Sullivan and David Shire, the visitors made the game safe. Credit to Will White, Kane Portass, Pavel Saponenko and Luke Proctor who all lined up in unfamiliar positions. It has been the misfortune of the young fourths to come up against first XIs in consecutive weeks from clubs who are playing in the bottom division by request and not based on last season's results. They have learned a lot though and look forward to travelling to high flying Horncastle next week.
