Bragging Rights go to the Cricket Section in Long Sutton Ashes Hockey Match!

The Calendar never lies and it was indeed a Good Friday. To celebrate the end of the hockey season and the start of the cricket season, the cricket section (with a few cricket playing hockey players!) took the hockey section on at it's own game and won in what was a good game played in an excellent spirit.

With Danny Sisson, Jimmy Harrison and Mark Bryan forming the spine of the Cricket team the match was never going to be a foregone conclusion and with the Hockey section all playing out of position the early advantage sat with the Cricketers.

Sisson opened the scoring, Donaghy made it 1-1, Canham made it 2-1 to the Cricketers, Mallett made it 2-2, Harrison restored the Cricketers lead before Baker dubiously robbed Ian White to make it 4-2 at half time.

The Hockey section regrouped at half time and Ash Taylor reduced the deficit after a spell of concerted pressure before Sisson scoring his 2nd, Lovegrove  and Sisson with his 3rd finished off the scoring.

In a game played in great spirit and at a good tempo, stand out performances , excluding the quality on show from Bryan, Sisson and Harrison, were Mallett and Taylor for the Hockey section and Fox (Long Sutton's stunted version of Franz Beckenbauer!) for the Cricket section. Special mention must go to those in the cricket team , some of whom playing for the first time, who took to the task enthusiastically led by the Wright Brothers, in particular Jimmy taking flight to make a number of excellent saves in goal.
