The Ninjas 3 v The Pressies 1
This week saw the two Sutton teams play each other in a closely fought game. The Ninjas took an early lead through Alex Canham but The Pressies continued to work hard and were more than a match for the more experienced Ninja side. Once again Mallett worked hard and the returning Bailey organised the team well, indeed it was no surprise when Lisa Baker found Jack Smith in the D and he finished well to level the scores just before the break. The Ninjas took the game to the Pressies in the second half with the ever impressive Baguley having more influence as the game went on. More chances were made and but for some excellent keeping from the young female Pressies Keeper CJ Robinson, including a penalty flick save from Ladies 1sts captain Leanne Woodhead, the woodwork and dynamic defending by the entire Pressies team the lead could have been taken earlier. Eventually Fyson gave the Ninjas the lead and Woodhead scored a well struck short corner to give the scoreline a comfortable feel.
Wisbech 2nd Team 3 v Spalding 1st Team 1
Wisbech continued their march towards finals night with a 3-1 win over Spalding. Whilst the scoreline looks comfortable, Spalding matched their opponents for large sections of the game but the difference was the clinical approach Wisbech took in front of goal. Wisbech took a 2 goal lead into half time after excellent finishes from Orlando and Verity, Spalding continued to work hard and never looked out of the game but struggled to find a clear shot when in the D. Wisbech however had no such problem and went further in front when a well struck cross deflected off Rob Tilbrook's stick into the goal. Spalding never gave up and their efforts were rewarded when Mike Morris crashed in a great finish from the top of the D. Both teams played the game to a high quality in what was an enjoyable game of hockey.
