Sutton Sabres 1 v The Nerds 6
Whilst it might have taken them 3 weeks to announce their arrival, the Nerds made a statement tonight. Playing fluently they took the game to the Sabres and were sharper in the tackle and clinical in front of goal. With tireless running up front from Jeorgia Carr and Will White alongside intelligent play from Jamie Featherstone, Ed White and Holly Naismith the chances came and were put away. Two goals from Gary Hales and one from James Taverner along with a Lisa Baker own goal gave the Nerds 4 goals before the break, this after Ben Shore had opened the scoring for the Sabres. After the break Batten scored and Hales completed his hat trick to make it 6-1. A very good all round team performance from the team in green.
Spalding 2nd Team 3 v Wisbech 1st Team 1
Spalding ran out winners in what was a top quality game of hockey. They took the game to a previously undefeated Wisbech side and it was no surprise when Spalding took a 2 goal lead into the break thanks to good finishes from Sally Pilgrim and Kelly Slator. Indeed, but for Shepherd in the Wisbech goal the margin would have been much larger. Spalding consolidated their position in the second half with Tilbrook and Watts working well to support Cunnington. Wisbech worked hard to try and get back into the game but the 11 player squad were not helped when one of their players went off injured halfway through the second half. To their credit the depleted side did not give up and no one was going to stop Lisa Williamson's fantastic deflected finish which gave them hope; this hope was extinguished when Cunnington finished well just before the end to make the score 3-1.
