Wisbech 2nd Team 1 v The Sabres 1 (Wisbech win on Penalty Flicks 3-1)

Wisbech won the 3rd place play-off on flicks after a tight game which ended in a draw after normal time. Both games started well and it was the Sabres who took the lead through Ladies top scorer in the tournament Becky Kierman, scoring another impressive goal. Wisbech battled back and equalised before half time to make the scores level at the interval. Shore worked hard for his team as did Lisa Baker and Allen tried to drive them forward, however but for the efforts of Lorraine Wallis in the Sabres goal and Micheal Donaghy in defence Wisbech would have won in normal time. The score remained level at full time so the 3rd place trophy was decided on flicks, to give the watching crowd a little more excitement. Wisbech were a little too clinical for the Sabres and so it was them then ended up winning the 3rd place trophy.

The Nerds 1 v The Ninjas 5

So 7 weeks after they opened the tournament with a defeat against Wisbech, The Ninjas won the final game of the first Summer League against fellow Sutton team the Nerds to be crowned winners. Starting strong the Ninjas controlled the game from the start, with Danny Sisson, Jimmy Harrison, Leanne Woodhead and Tom Baguley putting in more excellent performances for this team. The Nerds battled well, Tania White once again shone as did Jamie Featherstone and Captain Nick Ellis worked manfully to close down the attacking threat of the Ninjas. However once top scorer of the tournament Danny Sisson brutally finished from the edge of the D, it was always going to be hard work for the Nerds and this proved the case when Alex Canham flicked the ball over keeper Albert Slator and Sisson added a third before half time. The second half continued like the first, with Josh Fyson coming into his own and having his best half of the tournament claiming 2 goals, there could have been more as Robyn Gribble, Jeorgia Carr and Rhian Goodge were unlucky not to score before Tania White reduced arrears with a well taken flick. The final score ended 5-1 and The Ninjas were crowned champions of what had been a fun, competitive and well attended league. Thanks to Spalding and Wisbech for entering teams and joining in the fun, and thanks to the Umpire pool for helping out every week.
