Long Sutton Hockey Club was founded in 1923. At the time there was both a Long Sutton Hockey Club and a Holbeach Hockey Club. So it was decided that as one club had a ground, but few players and the other club players, but no ground, they should amalgamate.
In the 1960's the club moved to Cinder Ash, Long Sutton, built its own clubhouse and acquired a second pitch. The club continued to produce many county level players.
During the 1970's a joint venture was agreed with Long Sutton Cricket Club to build a new pavilion on Park Road. The Earl of Ancaster duly opened the pavilion in May 1975, at the time the club retained the Cinder Ash pitches and purchased land for 2 more in Daniels Gate.
With the advent of artificial pitches, the club raised and acquired funding for an artificial pitch laid at The Peele School: Opened by Stuart Storey in October 1997 all matches are now played on the 'Astro'.
With the Mens 1st XI reaching the heady heights of East Division Premier A and winning the County Championships in 2010, and the Womens XI also reaching East Division 1 North, the teams have experienced life at the pinnacle of hockey in South Lincolnshire, whilst still maintaining the fun and almost family feel to the club.
In the latter half of the 2010s, with the old pitch showing significant wear and tear after a good long life, funding was secured to upgrade the pitch to a sand-dressed pitch by a committee including Lorraine Wallis, Ian Canham, Lynne Braginton and many, many others. The construction of this pitch finished in 2019, with the donors board for the pitch still shown in the clubhouse to this date.
Notable players to have played in the club include: Glenn Kirkham (Ex-England Captain with a medal of each colour for the International side), Lorraine Wallis (current England Ladies Masters goalkeeper of choice, with multiple medals for the Lions),
Long Sutton Hockey Club is about encouraging and enabling players of all ages to learn about and to participate in the great sport of Hockey. From the Juniors all the way up to the Adult First Teams players are encouraged to play the game fairly and whilst encouraging a winning mentality, enjoyment is always the most important result.
The club also provides good oppurtunities for socialising and all players and families are encouraged to play an active part in any of the events, evenings or outings organised.
We pride ourself on the fact that a Friend made at Long Sutton Hockey Club is a Friend for Life!
