Derby Double Delight!!!

Long Sutton 2nd eleven continued their impressive form in this Division 4NW top of the table clash. With Sutton sitting in 3rd 1 point behind their local rivals it was the 'Green Army' who travelled back to Paradise Field with all 3 points. In a first half which Long Sutton dominated it wasn't long before Stefan Fox unselfishly found Nick Bailey who dutifully despatched the ball into an empty net. Long Sutton continued to play some fantastic passing hockey which their rivals had no answer to. Following a poor clearance by the Spalding defence the ball went straight to in form striker bailey who powered the ball into the roof of the net. Minutes later Bailey completed a remarkable first half hat-trick following a smart pass from Adam Wiles which placed under the oncoming keeper into the back of the net to the obvious delight of the striker. This was Bailey's third hat trick of the season and his second against their local rivals in the league. As with previous weeks Sutton began the second half sluggishly, seemingly content to sit on the 3 nil lead. The determination of the league leaders saw 2 thunder bolt short corner strikes which the Sutton keeper was helpless to prevent going in. Spalding continued to press and narrowly put another short corner wide of the post. From this, Sutton began to wake up and following some good work from 2nd team debutant Alex Canham, Fox won Sutton a short corner which Jeremy Watt was able bury in the bottom corner. This calmed the Sutton nerves for the final 10 minutes and with some solid defending by man of the match Michael Carter, Spalding were unable to find their way back into this mesmerising spectacle of hockey for which the crowd were dutifully grateful of seeing.
