Both sides took to the field in this 5NW match with an even mix of youth and experience.

Deeping started well and pressured the Sutton goal but the home team soon began to play passing hockey to create chances and win short corners. Hales and Lovegrove combined well in a text book short routine to score. Several  more chances  were converted by Gary Hales who scored a total of four goals in quick order to give Sutton a lead of 4 -1 at half time.

For this team winning at half time was a novel experience and Sutton were determined to go and win the second half.

Deeping had the better start to the second half and scored early on. Nick Worth marshalled the defence and athletic man marking by Fisher, Bishop  and Sissons began to contain the threat.  The Maris boys combined well and supported Harry Thorpe in attack. Edward Whites response was to dribble around three players into the D and slot the ball away in the bottom corner for a 5-2 lead, easily the goal of the match.

Deeping were still dangerous,  forcing fancy footwork and an outrageous diving reverse stick save from keeper Slator to keep Sutton in front.  Eventually Deeping  slotted the ball beneath Slator from one of many well worked short corners to cut the lead to 5-3.

Deeping continued to press to salvage a point and were vulnerable to a counter attack. A long ball forward was pounced on by James Baker and bundled past the keeper in traditional fashion.

Sutton continued to press forward and energetic work from Jack Smith forced an own goal to seal the victory at 7-3.

Overall a great performance from both teams, with Sutton finishing well to take the points.
