Mens 1st XI vs St Ives 1

The Green Army said to The Fox 'What is your wish oh mighty one?' '3 of your finest points on my wedding day please,' he replied... and so his wish was The Green Army's command...

It was a bright, chilly morning, perfect for the wedding day of the Fox. All were well rested, ready to bring it home for the main man. Jimmy had enjoyed his beauty sleep, Brad's weapon was sharpened and Mac and JB were queued outside Thea Coffee House at 7:58pm. With Super Saturday in full swing our fine squad of men took to the side-lines to support the ladies. Who, with such ease, swept aside both opponents in 2-0 and 7-0 wins. No pressure lads! We took to the pitch and to the surprise of absolutely no-one Bessy completely drowned out the weak noise of Panic at the Disco from the opposition speaker. What an awful pre-game song!

And we were off! For the first time this season we were relatively quick out the gates and Jimmy couldn't moan at anyone for at least the first 10 minutes around such time Nel-Dog hammered home the opener after lovely flank work from Macca! The score was soon to begin rising when JB rounded the keeper after a ball through from Nel and struck the ball into the netting. He was soon to pop up in the circle again and notched his second, bringing the score to a wonderful looking 3-0. At this point it looked like being one of the greatest home matchdays in the club's history with 12 goals having been scored and none conceded... But that's not the Sutton way! The foot came somewhat off the gas and a string of penalty corners were conceded. The first made it through to the right of Pigman between the sticks and then the second came after Dano wore one to the body and conceded a stroke. Half time soon followed and the score was 3-2 to the home side.

Half time came at the right time. A good chance to re-cooperate and freshen up. Snacks this week were provided by Dom and Piggers and they did not disappoint. A fine spread of Haribo's. With cola bottles running through their veins the boys were ready to go again. Early domination once again created more green chances and the dynamic duo of Sambo and Dom were large parts of the success. 3 penalty corners were won in a short space of time. It would be the third that was put away by JB for his hat-trick, perfectly finding the hole in the keeper's glove! The fifth goal was the best of the lot. A brilliant run forward by Mac found Baker behind enemy lines who cut inside and provided Brad an open goal finish to bring the score line to 5-2!

However, the lads felt sorry for the traveling side and thought they better make their trip at least a little worth it. They founds one back to bring the score to 5-3 and then Piggers remembered he had community service hours to fulfil and kindly let one go under his kicker (legend has it, the ball was last touched outside the circle but sshhh). This infuriated Jimmy, who took his anger out on Sam this week for running forward with the ball. Outrageous! Josh decided he was tired with a minute left and so left a trademark stick tackle down in the corner of the pitch was went for a sit down , taking the ball with him off the pitch in true 10 year old 'It's my ball so the game is over!' fashion!!! Luke took the ball back from him and the lads decided to play on for the extra minute. Someone might need to post on Spotted Long Sutton asking for a wet floor sign for the next home game in the sin bin area!

Full time: 5-4 to the boys in green and the Fox had his wish! This week's POTM was Mckenzie Ea..... Really? This isn't some sort of typo? I suppose he played alright. DOTD was Jimmy for forcing Sam to pay out for therapy classes and Dano won item of the day for his flute remedies! 'm surprised we didn't find him performing at the wedding later in the evening!

Talking of the wedding, a fine performance was capped off by celebrating the wedding day of Mr and Mrs Fox! Congratulations to you both! A truly SUPER SATURDAY!!!

Next game: Cambridge 1s Away 15:45 12/10/24
