Mens 1st XI vs City Of Peterborough 2

Sutton return to fortress HQ with stalemate versus COP!

It had been a tough week for the 1st team. Dealing with the loss to Wisbech had caused some restless nights. Freezing nights and days were making Saturday's fixture against CoP look ropey but our heroes wind and rain came into save the day along with some help from 10 degree temperatures #weatherman.. Unfortunately these conditions were not quite enough to cancel a shoot and so Sutton lined up with 12. News of Nellis' latest activities in the WhatsApp broke early in the morning and the good lads knew it was matchday!

So, unchanged from the week before, we headed to the pitch. With CoP too afraid to bring their speaker out in such conditions, Bessy retained her title as the greatest, sexiest speaker in Div 1N. And, thanks to Pigman, she now has a fresh new set of prosthetic legs to wheel around on!

The game kicked off in similar fashion to many of those before. CoP held the lion share of possession but looked not to trouble Sutton's goal with much poise. However, they opened the scoring with a well time backhand across goal which was deflected home. Sutton kept to the gameplan however and as the game grew older began asserted their own period of dominance over CoP. For a while the travelling side struggled a lot with getting out of their half and the boys forced plenty of errors from them. The first goal would come from a PC when a deflected drag from JB fell to Mr Admin on the post to snaffle home! Peterborough had one chance later on and won themselves a corner but brilliant running from The Fox charged the flick perfectly which then fell to Dom. Dom began the counter, played in Mac who drove into the circle and thundered home a shot on the backhand, high into the netting! 2-1 to the fine lads in green. The dominance continued for a while and the likes of JB, Mac and Batten all came close in the first half! Half time 2-1 to Sutton

The game had a similar feel about it to the Magpies matchup. Sutton were so well organised and snuffing most things out that CoP threw at them but troubled them greatly going forwards. The midfield were working over time providing some fantastic forward play.

The second half began similarly once again and Sutton were more than happy with that. More chances on the break presented themselves but none quite as big as one in particular for JB. There's several things that people in this club would be happy putting their life savings on. Simon Clarke to have a few cans of stella in his stick bag, Luke Proctor to miss-trap a flat pass from centre back or even Jim to score a flick! Also on that list would be JB to score on his backhand in front of an open goal... so when he sent this exact chance into Cinder Ash Park the rest of the squad were left stunned and wondering what on earth has happened to him? Seeing as I get to write these reports.... I blame the pass...

Anyhow.. It wouldn't be long before JB could redeem himself. Sam "The Bull" Gray was charging around the midfield absolutely loving life. A poor CoP player was left astounded after Sambo hammered in a perfect steal of the ball and powered forward to play in JB who turned and this time converted on his backhand #15goals #catchup #tennerforanopengoal #notbitter

Sutton led 3-1 and were in the drivers seat but the away side were not done net. They came back at the home side hard and won themselves several PCs. Their second goal came after a bobble from the runner found a player a few yards out who managed to tap home to reduce the deficit to one. They continued the pressure on the homer side and yet another PC was gained. This one was fired home perfectly into the top corner and CoP were level.

A poor end to the game cost us and Sutton walked off the pitch at the end of the game disappointed with just the point but it was certainly a testament to where they are at.

Post game Cuthberts were enjoyed courtesy of Raggers and Dano made it 3 from 4 in the Item of the Day series with his dodgy off-shore purchase! There was a worrying 5 minute period as Bessy went under the knife but we need not worry as the Op was successful and she was wheeling around the club joyously on her new pegs!

POTM was the charging Sambo who could not be stopped at all in a game he was so important in!

DOTD was JB once again and once more he must look after the chicken. At this point, there must almost be an official three-way relationship between the two of them and Jim, who himself almost kept the hat! #angryman

Up next for Sutton is a trip to JB's old stomping ground! Norwich away! 30/11/24, 14:30 PB, all travelling support is hugely appreciated! See you there!
