FYSON FIRES SUTTON TO DERBY DOUBLE!
Sutton hosted Spalding looking to do the double over them in the league this season. Sutton had a strong squad of 12 with a few returning faces in Fyson, Batten and East. With a good warmup under their belts the boys were ready to go.
The opening stages of the game were slow to get going with both sides working each other out and neither team threatening the opposite goal early on. The defence of Donaghy, Harrison, Baguley and Proctor were well organised and kept out Spalding well. A couple of penalty corners came and went for the travelling side, one of which required a goal line clearance from Baker on the post. Sutton had a couple of corner chances themselves but were unable to convert. The likes of Baker, Fyson and Batten all came close on occasions in the first half but there was never a clear cut opportunity. Ibrahim and Gray were working hard in tandem to create as much as possible for the boys in green. HT 0-0
The second half saw the game begin to open up with more chances for both sides. Sutton had their opportunities but good saves from the opposing keeper kept them out. Once more, line saves from Baker and Fyson were important in keeping the score at 0-0. Harrison decided to take a few sit downs throughout the half as he saw a few cards from the officials. Cliff made some fantastic saves throughout to keep a hold of his clean sheet. A penalty corner was won after top work from East down the left flank and it was to be converted by that man Fyson with a perfect flick to the bottom left. Sutton were in the drivers seat and worked hard to keep their 3 points in tact. FT 1-0.
A fully deserved victory for the boys as they head into a few favourable fixtures over the next few weeks starting with Magpies away whom the lads beat at home last time out. They’ll be hoping to re-create this next weekend.
