Mens 1st XI vs City Of Peterborough 2

16 March 2025 | Josh Baker
Mens 1st XI vs City Of Peterborough 2

Sutton travelled to Peterborough for a late Push Back this week with a strong squad once again and coming off the back of a a spirited performance against Cambs Uni.

Antic pre-game were varied. A trip to the Ship midday with Simon Clarke isn’t exactly hard for many to work out what happened is it? Mac had certainly got off on the wrong foot with Jim this weekend who was now very angry.

The same 11 started the game for the greens but with a few in slightly different positions. CoP enjoyed early dominance and were rewarded for their efforts as they converted the first of the game around 10 minutes in. Sutton responded well however with attacks of their own. Fox and Batten both came close with Baker enjoying success driving through the defence to create opportunities. It would be the later to convert the equaliser with a tidy back foot finish. Sutton kept on hitting the CoP defence hard. More close encounters for the likes of Ibrahim and Baker as well as several corners. Quick hands from Baker at a long corner saw the ball carried into the circle and laid off for East to slap home to give Sutton the lead for the first time. The defence had been working hard but an outstretched arm from Harrison saw a nasty deflection strike Baguley on the side of the head who had to leave the pitch for slight treatment. A good egg on its way we think. Soon after CoP forced their way through the Sutton defence and nudged home an equaliser to bring things level again. HT 2-2

The second half was pretty equal in terms of opportunities. Both sides had chances to take the 3 points but neither could convert. Corners came and went for the travelling side once more and CoP came close on a few too. As time ticked away the game became more back and forth and it was vital that the middle men stayed firm and that they did. POTM Fox was vital in keeping the side level and cresting chances going forward. Hard work defensively and legs moving forward. In the last 10 minutes Sutton had a couple very good chances to win it but it just wasn’t to be. FT 2-2

POTM was Fox for a fine midfield display

DOTD was East for beers
