Sutton welcomed Huntingdon and Northstowe on Saturday in a battle of the bottom two. Sutton started brightly pushing Hunts back from the off, with Katie Whiittaker dominating the centre of midfield. Lillie Tegerdine was working well with Katie and looking to get the ball forward to birthday girl Jasmin Gaborit-Carter, who was mesmerising with her mazy runs causing havoc in the Hunts D. Sutton were awarded a penalty stroke following a mele in the Hunts D which was duly dispatched by Emma Grosvenor. 1-0 Sutton.
Sutton continued to dominate with the backline of Julie Warby Sarah Skate and Evah Goult virtually untroubled but anything that was asked of them was dutifully dealt with Penny Perowne worked hard in midfield and found herself in great spaces but Sutton were just not able to find the killer ball. Sutton did come close to extending their lead with both Holly Fox and Alison Whittaker both missing the target by a whisker following good work by Lily Clarke
Utility player Wendy Canham played both on the forward line and the backline allowing Sutton to keep the tempo high but the half ended 0-0, with keeper Sophie Clarke staying alert to clear the danger after a Hunts breakaway
The second half saw a change of position for Hunts and they began to exert some more control over the game Despite the best efforts of the Sutton defence a quick counter attack saw them outnumbered and Hunts were able to capitalise with a tap in on the post Sophie Clarke with no chance
Sutton did not let their heads drop however and a great move saw them earn a short corner Katie Whittaker pulled out to Penny Perowne whose thunderbolt of a shot struck the post, however Katie pounced onto the loose ball to put Sutton back into the lead
The game became physical and Hunts were putting Suttons defence under pressure They thought that they had equalised from a short corner of their own but the goal was correctly ruled out as the ball had not come out of the D
with the minutes ticking down they earned another short corner which was brilliantly run down by Emma Grosvenor but unfortunately the ball had struck her foot earning Hunts one more chance Despite heroic efforts on the line by Julie Warby they managed to find the back of the net
2-2 and the points shared Sutton can definitely hold their heads high with every single player knowing that they had given everything
POTM votes were spread to confirm the commitment from everyone but the overall winner was Emma Grosvenor for a great battle and a superb flick
