Long Sutton visited Cambridge with a one place and three point advantage ahead of this lower table battle. Long Sutton started with serious intent and dominated early play, with Leanne Woodhead and Robyn Gribble going close to opening the scoring. However after 17 minutes the Nomads, on a rare excursion into the Long Sutton half, scored a scrappy goal after the ball broke loose to Liz Johnson who slotted home from close range. This inspired Nomads, who began to look more threatening, and soon after nudged further ahead after Bethany Davies converted a neatly taken short corner. Play continued to be fast and furious, with Nomads passing the ball well, although Sutton continued to have the balance of play and better chances. The second half started as the first with a determined effort from a hard working Sutton. After a 15 minute spell of pressure, Sutton were rewarded when Jess Hudson pumped a pass from defence which carved open the Nomads defence and found Robyn Gribble. She still had much to do, but she held off the attention of several defenders before hammering the ball past the Nomads keeper to bring the score to 2-1. Sutton continued to dominate, with Sarah Walker pivotal in midfield, although Nomads on the break still looked very dangerous, but the Long Sutton defence, marshaled by captain Gemma Parr had to be on guard on numerous occasions, and with several smart saves and clearances by in form keeper Lorraine Wallis keeping Sutton in the game. At the other end Robyn Gribble always looked dangerous, and inevitably following a spell of pressure on the Nomads defence, Gribble converted a short corner which was especially well injected by Hannah Greenacre allowing Gribble to fire her shot home to level the score at 2-2. Nomads were in no mood to leave it at that, and created several late chances with Wallis being called on to very cleverly block out a one on one which would have given Nomads the spoils. However, the defence of both times remained resolute to block out any more attempts To Long Sutton's credit, the team showed great togetherness and character to come back from 2 nil down, and move up a league place as reward for their efforts. Woman of the match was by far Hannah Greenacre for her intelligent and industrious performance over the whole 70 minutes. Next week Sutton travel to Watton for another lower end of the table clash.
