Sutton started this local derby with a positive approach knowing that their opposition had already gained promotion. Although Wisbech attacked hard from the push back the Sutton defence with the back five of Howell Snr, Warrick, Goodge, Baker & Worth along with player of the match CJ Robinson, kept the home side at bay. Dawn Howell played an outstanding game in defence and prevented the tally from being higher with a couple of clearances off the line.
Goodley & Carr worked tirelessly together in the middle of the park along with Maplethorpe & Gray as wing halves, to no avail. Wisbech put away Two goals before the half time whistle. Sutton could take some positives from the first half although the frustrations for the back row in attempting to get the ball through the red shirts took its toll.
Sutton hoped for improved fortunes in the second half and made some strong runs down both wings with Howell & Lamming threatening the defence but Wisbech had a fine back line and nothing was getting past them. Attempts to mark out the danger players for Wisbech started well but constant pressure and numerous exceptionally well worked corners soon increased their tally. Wisbech's superior fitness and skill levels clearly showed in the last quarter and increased their tally to 8.
A game of 2 halves with a disappointing score line saw the visiting side retain a mid table finish however huge respect for Wisbech who quite deservedly took championship spot.
