Sutton entertained the leaders of the North Premier division on Sunday in round 3 of the HA cup. Both teams started well playing the ball around nicely, penetrating defences. It was Sutton who should have opened the scoring but couldn't find the deadly touch needed. Oxton broke the deadlock after some good play but this spurred Sutton on. Whatling playing in his new role caused all sorts of problems for Oxton as he continued to fly past them creating some good opportunities. Unfortunately Sutton's team efforts were not rewarded and Oxton managed to double their lead. 2-0 half time. Harrison reminded his green army about the comeback last Sunday and his troops responded. Sutton started the second half in a determined way and should have pulled one back but Oxtons ex-welsh national team goalkeeper produced a stunning save to stop the ball as it was heading into the bottom corner. Sutton's lapse in concentration for a couple of minutes allowed Oxton to add a third. Again Sutton responded but couldn't convert their good efforts. Sutton can be proud of their efforts against a team pushing for National League hockey next season and take the performance into next weekends game.
