MATCH REPORT
LSHC Mixed v Crowland Pool
Played Home on 17th July 2013Sutton Sabres 1 v Spalding 2nd Team 0
The Sabres came out winners in a tight game against Spalding. The match was well contested and end to end with good defending and keeping from both sides making chances hard to come by, The Sabres moved the ball well with some excellent play from the ladies in the side carving out an opportunity for Becky Kierman to score another trademark 'wonder' goal. Spalding fought back and whilst they created chances they failed to convert them, as did The Sabres who also failed to add to their lead with some off target shooting. Donaghy and Watling worked hard in defence, whilst all of the ladies battled well to hold the lead. A workmanlike performance from The Sabres that sets up a 'Winner takes all' clash with the Nerds next week.
Wisbech 1st Team 1 v The Nerd Herd 2
The Nerds came away with the spoils in what was one of the best matches of the league so far. A strong Wisbech side were unsettled from the start as Featherstone, Hales and Charlee Leuty took the game to them from the pushback, whilst Gemma Parr and Jess Hudson marshalled the defence. This early pressure resulted in a cool finish from Hales to make it 1-0; Wisbech responded to this with pressure of their own and makeshift keeper Danny Sisson gave a classic example of Poacher turned Gamekeeper with an inspired display in the Nerd goal, although he was eventually beaten by an outstanding Ed Batt finish which levelled the scores at the break. The second half continued at a pace and with Jeorgia Carr once again impressive and Harry Thorpe shining on his first game of the tournament, there was little surprise when Hales made the score 2-1 with a clinical finish. Wisbech worked hard to claw back into the game but found no way past the superlative Sisson who was ably assisted by the experience and guile of Belding and Ellis in ensuring the win was secured.
