Sutton hosted Cambs South 5ths knowing that only a victory against fellow relegation contenders would do, and they gave absolutely everything to try to ensure that they came away with the 3points, ultimately coming up just short
The start of the game certainly didn’t go to plan with Cambs South scoring from the first short corner after a minute. 2 minutes later though parity was restored with a thunderbolt from Lisa Baker giving the Cambs South keeper no chance. Things got better for Sutton shortly after with Baker grabbing her second. Cambs South were equal to it though and bought themselves level shortly after.
The game had an ebb and flow and Jasmin Gaborit-Carter restored Suttons lead with a super goal only for Cambs South to equalise yet again. 6 goals in a thrilling first half performance.
The second half was a little less frantic but continued with the basketball like attack v defence from both sides. To be fair the result could have gone either way with Sutton keeper Sophie Clarke keeping her team level and Baker coming within inches of her hat-trick.
A draw was a fair result and whilst not quite what was needed, Suttons whole team came off knowing that there had been nothing more to give.
Another home game this week against basement side Huntingdon and Northstowe. A game that Sutton look forward to and a game that they will again give everything in.
